“It’s a long way to the top, if you want rock’n’roll” sang the good Bon Scott on a truck on the streets of Melbourne. The concept, revised and updated, also applies to SEO and Google positioning. If someone has presented themselves to you with wonderful promises to put you on the front page of Google within a week or twenty days, rest assured that they are lying to you or deceiving you. SEO takes time and patience. But not only that.

The analysis work

The truth, gentlemen, is that SEO is not an exact science but is a work made of accurate analysis, correction of errors, construction of an online reputation that must be solid and authoritative not only in the eyes of Google but also, and above all, in the eyes of users, readers, customers and potential such.

Optimizing a site also means doing a competitor analysis, evaluating possible partners, working on the right keywords, finding a niche, prepare optimized copy, working on tags, descriptions, url structure, images and site structure.

Working on a site’s SEO also means keeping up to date with Google’s algorithm updates and what Mr. G. asks a site today to consider well done. So no, what you did in 2001 to place your old site and that worked so well is not replicable. In fact, it would be not recommended today.

To do all this takes time: time for analysis, time to make the first changes, time to measure the results and then time to start over.

Keywords and market niches

A key factor in an SEO strategy are the keywords on which you decide to work. In order to achieve good results, it is essential to identify the right ones. It’s better to focus on precise non-generic keywords, which can bring quality traffic to the site, rather than trying to position yourself with generic keywords, millions of results, and very high competition. Of course, these choices also affect the time it takes to achieve results: the more competition you have, the longer it takes to achieve an improvement in ranking. Also beware of scams though: if someone proposes to get you on the front page with the name of your company associated with the location, and wants to be paid for it, they are not proposing a good deal.

SEO timing

It may take one or two months for this analysis, editing, and control work to give you the first visible results. So it is perfectly useless that the week after the first intervention you start looking for your site in the SERPs with the expectation of finding out who knows what change, you may be disappointed. This does not mean that it is never possible to see short-term results, it only means that in order to assess the goodness of an SEO intervention it is necessary not to be in a hurry and wait a reasonable time (general while 3 to 6 months depending on the type of site, the sector and the competition), necessary to verify fluctuations and stabilizes of the placements with the different keywords.
